Westerbork Path part 29
Hiked 5.3 kilometres from Hooghalen to Camp Westerbork.
After Hooghalen, you’ll walk to camp Westerbork, the final destination of the Westerborkpad. The museum houses a projection of the names of over a hundred thousand victims. You’ll also come across the speaking image of the National Monument Westerbork, featuring the remnants of the old railway line with its bent rails.

Every 32 meters along the route, for approximately 3 kilometres, there’s a post with a date and the number of people transported to different camps.
These aren’t just ordinary posts; they’re markers that used to be part of the track.
There were 93 transports from Westerbork camp to the various concentration camps, including Auschwitz, Sobibor, Mauthausen, Bergen Belsen, and Theresienstadt.

In Theresienstadt, more than 175 Jews from the Netherlands were murdered, through Theresienstadt 3000 Jews from the Netherlands were deported to Auschwitz

1749 Jews from the Netherlands were murdered in Mauthausen

In Auschwitz-Birkenau more than 56500 Jews and more than 200 Sinti and Roma from the Netherlands were murdered

The 102,000 stones, at the roll-call square in the former Westerbork camp in Hooghalen, is a monument in memory of the 102,000 Jews and Roma who were deported from the Netherlands during the Second World War and have not returned alive anymore.
