24

24 is an American action thriller series. It aired on Fox from 6 November 2001 to 24 May 2010, with a limited revival called Live Another Day in 2014. Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran created it. Kiefer Sutherland plays Jack Bauer, a federal agent at the Counter Terrorist Unit in Los Angeles.
Each season covers one day, told in real time. Every episode runs one hour of that day, from midnight to midnight. A ticking clock splits the screen and counts down between scenes. Kiefer Sutherland carries every season on his back as Jack fights terrorists, traitors, and his own government. Mary Lynn Rajskub plays Chloe O'Brian, the analyst who backs Jack when no one else will. Carlos Bernard plays Tony Almeida, his closest ally. The original run has eight seasons and 192 episodes. Live Another Day adds 12 more.
What I Loved
The real time format creates tension that no other show has matched. There is no time skip, no breathing room. When Jack has twenty minutes to stop a bomb, you feel every one of them. Kiefer Sutherland gives Jack a worn, desperate edge that grows heavier with each season. He does terrible things for good reasons, and the show forces you to sit with that.
The split screen adds to the pressure. You watch three things happen at once and know they will collide. The first season still holds up as one of the finest thrillers ever put on television. Later seasons vary, but the format keeps even weaker years watchable. Mary Lynn Rajskub's Chloe became a fan favourite through sheer stubbornness and skill. The show moves fast and never lets you look away.
Why You Should Watch
It changed how television told action stories. Each episode lasts about 43 minutes and ends on a hook that makes stopping hard. The first season, the fifth, and Live Another Day are the strongest runs. Fans of thrillers or spy fiction will find a show built for speed and stakes.
It asks uncomfortable questions about what a country should allow in its own defence. Jack breaks laws, hurts people, and loses everything he cares about to keep others safe. The show does not always answer its own questions, but it asks them with force. Start with season one and let the clock pull you through.
Favourite Quote
"I am going to need a hacksaw."
Jack says this with flat calm during a crisis. No context needed. The line became famous because it tells you everything about who Jack Bauer is. He does what needs doing, no matter the cost, and he does not flinch.
Takeaway
Safety has a price, and someone always pays it. The show teaches that duty can hollow a person out if nothing else fills the space. Trust breaks fast under pressure. Good people do bad things when time runs short. And one day can change everything if the stakes are high enough.
