The Holy Bible - Obadiah
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read it?
The Book of Obadiah is the shortest in the Old Testament. It warns Edom of judgement for their pride and harm to Judah. Written after Jerusalem's fall in 586 BC, Obadiah says God will punish Edom for gloating over Israel's ruin. The book ends with hope for Israel's restoration.
You will find words on pride's fall, justice for wrongs, and God's rule over nations. This book suits anyone who wants to see how God deals with arrogance and protects His people.
Favourite quote
In Obadiah 1:15, the prophet states:
For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
This warns that actions have results. It shows God's fair judgement. The words remind us to treat others well, as we reap what we sow.
What I Loved
The promise in verse 21 inspires me: "And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD's." This ends the book on a high note. It shows God's final win and rule. The line gives hope that good triumphs over evil.
Key Takeaway
Obadiah teaches that pride leads to downfall and God avenges harm to His people. Edom's betrayal brings their ruin, while Israel gains back their land. The book calls us to stay humble, avoid gloating, and trust God's justice. It assures us that God's kingdom will prevail.
