The Holy Bible - Numbers
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read it?
Why should you read the Book of Numbers? It tells the story of the Israelites’ journey through the desert, from Mount Sinai to the edge of the Promised Land. It’s a rollercoaster of trials and triumphs, faith and rebellion, judgment and mercy.
The Lord tested His people in the wilderness, and they complained to Him. But even though they doubted Him, He stayed true to his promise. As it says in the book:
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)
This book teaches that God’s promises are reliable, but our unbelief and disobedience can sometimes delay His blessings.
Favourite quote
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. (Numbers 6:24–26)
This blessing from Aaron, spoken to the people, is a powerful reminder of God’s love and care for His own. Even in the midst of the trials of the wilderness, His love and grace remain.
What I Loved
I loved Numbers because it showed both God’s justice and mercy. The Israelites kept rebelling, complaining, and even wanting to go back to Egypt. But God always took care of them. He sent manna from heaven, water from a rock, and a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
One of the memorable moments is when Moses, tired, hit the rock instead of talking to it like God told him to. Even though water came out, Moses couldn’t go into the Promised Land. This shows how important it is to follow God’s rules.
But Numbers also shows us a little bit of Christ, especially in the story of the bronze serpent. When the people were bitten by fiery serpents, God told Moses to put up a bronze serpent on a pole. Anyone who looked at it got better, like a little preview of Christ, who was lifted up on the cross so that everyone who believes in Him can be saved.
Key Takeaway
The Book of Numbers teaches us that God is faithful, but humans are easily tempted. Our spiritual journey is like the wilderness, where we face challenges and struggles, but God guides us through.
The main lesson is this: Trust in the Lord, because His promises will always come true. As it says in the Bible: “The Lord your God, he shall fight for you.” (Numbers 3:22)
Let’s not be like those who doubted and ended up lost in the wilderness, but like Caleb and Joshua, who believed and entered into the land of promise.
