The Holy Bible - Matthew

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

The Book of Matthew, written around 60–70 AD, presents Jesus as the promised Messiah and King of the Jews. Likely authored by Matthew, a tax collector turned disciple, it traces Jesus’ life, teachings, death, and resurrection. It connects Old Testament prophecies to Jesus, showing Him as the fulfilment of God’s plan. The book includes the Sermon on the Mount, parables, and miracles.

You will find Jesus’ teachings on love, forgiveness, and the kingdom of God, plus His call to follow Him. This book suits anyone seeking to know Jesus’ life and message.

Favourite quote

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus sums up God’s law:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

These words boil down faith to two rules: love God fully and love others as yourself. They guide us to live with devotion and kindness.

What I Loved

The Sermon on the Mount in chapters 5–7 grabs me. Jesus teaches the Beatitudes, saying, “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). His words turn worldly values upside down, urging humility and mercy. This teaching inspires me to live with compassion and trust God’s way over human pride.

Key Takeaway

Matthew shows Jesus as the Messiah who brings God’s kingdom. His life and teachings call for faith, obedience, and love, even in tough times. The book urges us to follow Jesus, live His teachings, and share His message (Matthew 28:19-20). It reminds us that Jesus’ death and resurrection offer salvation and hope for all who believe.
