The Holy Bible - Leviticus
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read Leviticus?
Within its pages, the holiness of the Lord is unveiled, along with His divine commandments regarding worship, sacrifice, and the sanctification of His people.
The Lord spake unto Moses, saying:
“Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19:2)
This book is frequently perceived as challenging, yet it is replete with profound meaning. It demonstrates how, through sacrifice and atonement, a sinful human being can approach a holy God. It foreshadows Christ, who became the ultimate sacrifice, fulfilling the law once and for all.
Favourite quote
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” (Leviticus 17:11)
This verse elucidates the profound enigma of redemption. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Every sacrifice in Leviticus serves as a foreshadowing of the perfect sacrifice of Christ, whose blood was shed to atone for the sins of the entire world.
What I Loved
What I most appreciated about Leviticus is its emphasis on the holiness of God and His aspiration for His people to be distinguished. The regulations regarding cleanliness, the observances of feasts, and the priestly responsibilities all serve to convey a profound spiritual truth: God invites His people to be set apart from the world, to live in purity and righteousness.
The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) particularly resonated with me. On this solemn occasion, the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies to make atonement for the transgressions of the people. This foreshadowed the role of Christ, our Great High Priest, who once entered the heavenly sanctuary, making an eternal atonement for us.
Key Takeaway
The Book of Leviticus emphasises God’s holiness and His desire for His people to attain holiness. Every law, sacrifice, and ritual contained within this book serves as a precursor to the greater redemption achieved through Christ Jesus.
The central takeaway is that holiness is not a burden but a divine calling. As it is written, “Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 20:7)
Therefore, let us draw near to God not by the blood of bulls and goats, but by the blood of Christ, who has made us clean forever.
