The Holy Bible - Jonah

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

The Book of Jonah tells the story of Jonah, a prophet who runs from God's command to preach to Nineveh, a wicked city. Written around the 8th century BC, it shows Jonah's flight, his time in a great fish, and his preaching that leads Nineveh to repent. The book reveals God's mercy for all people and His patience with stubborn hearts.

You will find Jonah's struggle, a city's change, and God's care for even the worst sinners. This book suits anyone wanting to explore obedience, forgiveness, and God's wide love.

Favourite quote

In Jonah 2:8-9, Jonah prays from the fish’s belly:

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

This shows Jonah’s turn to trust God. It reminds us that salvation comes only from God and that gratitude keeps us close to Him.

What I Loved

The moment in chapter 3 grabs me. Nineveh, a cruel city, hears Jonah’s warning and repents—from the king to the people (Jonah 3:5-10). God spares them. This swift change shows His mercy’s power. It makes me think how God can transform anyone who turns to Him, no matter their past.

Key Takeaway

Jonah teaches that God’s mercy reaches everyone, even those we think do not deserve it. Jonah’s refusal shows human weakness, but God’s plan prevails. The book calls us to obey God, embrace His forgiveness, and share His love widely. It reminds us that God seeks to save all who repent.
