The Holy Bible - Joel

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

The Book of Joel warns Israel about a locust plague and calls for repentance. Written around the 9th century BC, it uses the disaster to point to a greater day of judgement from God. Joel urges the people to turn back to God with true sorrow. He also promises restoration and the outpouring of God's Spirit on all people.

You will read about vivid pictures of ruin, pleas for mercy, and visions of future blessing. This book helps anyone who wants to understand God's call to change, the results of sin, and His plan for renewal.

Favourite quote

In Joel 3:20-21, God declares judgement and promise:

But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.

This passage contrasts the fate of enemies with the eternal security of God's people. It highlights God's justice against wrong and His commitment to purify and protect those who belong to Him.

What I Loved

The last few verses of Joel 3 touch me. In Joel 3:18-21, Joel describes a time of plenty: "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk... A fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD... Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation." These lines paint a picture of lasting peace and God's presence. They lift my spirits and show the reward of faithfulness.

Key Takeaway

Joel stresses that God judges sin but offers mercy to those who repent. The locust plague stands for wider troubles, yet God promises to restore what is lost (Joel 2:25). The book calls us to seek God with our whole heart, trust His timing, and look forward to His Spirit's work. It reminds us that true change brings blessing and God's protection lasts.
