The Holy Bible - Jeremiah
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read it?
Dive into the heart-wrenching story of Jeremiah, a prophet whose life was a rollercoaster of emotions. As he delivered God’s messages to a rebellious Judah on the brink of judgment, Jeremiah, known as the “weeping prophet,” boldly warned of exile while holding onto the promise of restoration. Written during Judah’s final days before the Babylonian captivity, this book weaves a tapestry of lament, hope, and unwavering divine faithfulness.
Prepare to witness Jeremiah’s struggles, God’s relentless call to repentance, and glimpses of a new covenant. This book reveals God’s tender heart—His deep sorrow over sin and His yearning to redeem. It’s a captivating read for anyone seeking to grasp God’s justice, mercy, and the sacrifices we make when we faithfully follow Him in a world that often resists.
Favourite quote
In Jeremiah 29:11, God’s promise to the exiles is like a ray of sunshine, full of hope:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
This verse, a favourite among many, reminds us that God has great plans for us, even when things get tough. It’s a comforting thought that His goals for us are always about hope and healing, and it encourages us to trust Him even when we’re going through tough times. These words give us strength and remind us of God’s unwavering love.
What I Loved
Jeremiah’s call in chapter 1 always gets me. When God chooses him, saying “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee” (Jeremiah 1:5). This is a really cool revelation about God’s plan for us. Even though Jeremiah was a bit hesitant, God gave him the courage and words he needed. It’s so personal—it shows how well God knows us and how he can use even the most reluctant people for his glory. It makes me want to follow my own calling and trust God’s strength to overcome my weaknesses.
Key Takeaway
Jeremiah emphasises God’s unwavering love and justice, urging repentance and promising renewal. Judah’s stubbornness in ignoring God’s warnings results in exile, but God’s faithfulness shines through in His promise of a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34), which was fulfilled in Christ. The book challenges us to face our sins, stay strong in our faith even when things get tough, and trust in God’s plans for our salvation. Jeremiah’s life reminds us that serving God can be tough, but His mercy is always there, offering hope and healing to those who turn back to Him.
