The Holy Bible - Hosea

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

The Book of Hosea tells the story of the prophet Hosea, whom God tells to marry a woman who cheats on him. This marriage stands for Israel's betrayal of God through idolatry. Set in the 8th century BC, during Israel's decline, the book mixes judgment on sin with calls to repent and promises of God's love. Hosea shows God's pain over His people's unfaithfulness and His wish to forgive.

You will find Hosea's personal struggles, strong images of betrayal and redemption, and God's steady mercy. This book helps anyone who wants to see how God views sin, yet offers grace to those who turn back to Him.

Favourite quote

In Hosea 6:6, God speaks through the prophet:

For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

This line stresses that God values true devotion and kindness over rituals. It calls us to focus on a real bond with God, not just outward acts, and to live with compassion.

What I Loved

The command to Hosea in chapter 1 moves me. God says, “Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD” (Hosea 1:2). Hosea obeys, despite the pain it brings. This act shows the depth of God's love, as He uses Hosea's life to mirror His own hurt. It makes me think about sacrifice in faith and God's use of hard paths to teach truth.

Key Takeaway

Hosea shows God's deep love for His people, even when they stray. Israel's idolatry brings judgment, but God promises healing and restoration for those who repent (Hosea 14:4). The book urges us to reject false gods, seek honest faith, and trust God's mercy. Hosea's story proves that no betrayal is too great for God's forgiveness, and His love seeks to bring us back.
