The Holy Bible - Haggai
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read it?
The Book of Haggai contains messages from the prophet Haggai to the Jews who returned from exile in Babylon around 520 BC. It pushes them to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, which lay in ruins. Haggai blames their hard times on putting their own homes first over God's house. The book mixes rebukes with promises of God's presence and future glory.
You will find calls to action, responses from leaders like Zerubbabel and Joshua, and visions of blessing. This book fits anyone who needs motivation to set priorities right and trust God's plans during rebuilding times.
Favourite quote
In Haggai 2:6-7, God declares:
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
This promise shows God's power to change things and bring greater glory to the temple. It offers hope that tough times lead to something better under His rule.
What I Loved
The quick response in chapter 1 grabs me. After Haggai speaks, the people obey: "Then Zerubbabel... and Joshua... with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God" (Haggai 1:12). God stirs their spirits to work. This fast change shows how God's word can move hearts and spark action, which encourages me when I feel stuck.
Key Takeaway
Haggai teaches to put God first for true success. The people's focus on themselves brings lack, but rebuilding the temple invites God's blessing (Haggai 2:19). The book urges us to check priorities, act on God's word, and expect His glory. It reminds us that obedience brings His presence and turns hardship into prosperity.
