The Holy Bible - First Samuel

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

Why should you read the Book of First Samuel? It tells the story of how Israel went from being ruled by judges to having kings. It’s about Samuel, the last judge, Saul, the first king of Israel, and David, who was like God’s favourite. It’s a book about faith, leadership, and what happens when you follow the rules or not.

As it is written:

“Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24)

This book teaches that God is the ultimate ruler of kings and nations, and He lifts up those who trust in Him.

Favourite quote

“For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

When David was chosen to be king, these words came out of his mouth. They show that God’s ways are totally different from ours. People always want power and status, but God wants a heart that’s totally loyal to Him.

What I Loved

I was captivated by the story of David, especially his epic battle with Goliath. Despite the entire nation trembling at the sight of the giant, David, a humble shepherd boy, stepped up to the challenge, trusted in the Lord and declared:

“The battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:47)

David, armed with just a sling and five stones, defeated the Philistine, proving that faith in God is stronger than any weapon of war.

Another powerful moment is David’s humility in refusing to kill King Saul, even though Saul wanted to kill him. David trusted in God’s timing, knowing that vengeance belongs to God alone.

Key Takeaway

The Book of First Samuel tells us that God is in charge of everything, and He rewards those who are honest and sincere in their search for Him. Even though Saul was chosen by people because he was tall, it was David, the humble shepherd, who God chose to do His work.

The main lesson here is that true strength and leadership come from faith and obedience to God, not from being powerful.

So, let’s not rely on our own strength, but on the Lord, who gives strength to the humble and lifts up those who are looking for Him.
