The Holy Bible - First Chronicles

The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.

Why read it?

First Chronicles is a sacred recounting of Israel’s history, focusing on the lineage of God’s people and the reign of King David. It’s like a family album, tracing God’s covenant from Adam to the tribes of Israel, with a spotlight on David’s devotion and leadership. Written to encourage the returning exiles, it emphasises God’s faithfulness and the importance of worship centred on the temple.

You’ll see genealogies that connect generations to God’s promises, alongside vivid accounts of David’s triumphs and heart for God. This book reminds us that God keeps His word through every twist of history, calling us to live faithfully in response. It’s a treasure for anyone seeking to understand their place in God’s unfolding story.

Favourite quote

In 1 Chronicles 16:34, David’s song of thanksgiving rings with timeless truth:

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

This verse, part of a psalm celebrating the ark’s arrival in Jerusalem, captures the heart of worship—gratitude for God’s unchanging goodness and endless mercy. It’s a call to pause and praise, no matter our circumstances, trusting that God’s love is eternal. These words lift our eyes to the One who is always worthy of our thanks.

What I Loved

David’s preparation for the temple in 1 Chronicles 22 absolutely captivates me. Knowing he couldn’t build it himself, David poured his heart into gathering materials and charging Solomon with the task. He said, “I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold… and thou mayest add thereto” (1 Chronicles 22:14). His selflessness and zeal for God’s glory are so moving. David didn’t just dream of a temple; he invested everything to ensure its future, trusting God’s plan through his son. This moment inspires me to serve God with wholehearted dedication, even when the results are for others to see.

Key Takeaway

The core message of First Chronicles is that God is faithful to His covenant, and He calls His people to worship Him with reverence and obedience. The genealogies show His meticulous care for every generation, while David’s life models a heart devoted to God’s purposes, despite human flaws. The book urges us to root our identity in God’s promises, prioritise worship, and live with integrity. It’s a reminder that our lives are part of a larger story—God’s redemptive plan—where He remains sovereign, inviting us to trust Him and contribute to His kingdom with faith and humility.
