The Holy Bible - Daniel
The Holy Bible is a collection of books. So I have split them up. I will read it in 1 year, every day ~15 minutes of reading.
Why read it?
The Book of Daniel records the life of Daniel, a young Jew taken captive to Babylon in 605 BC. It shares stories of faith amid trials, such as Daniel's friends in the fiery furnace and Daniel in the lions' den. The book also contains Daniel's visions of future empires and God's eternal kingdom. Written during the exile, it stresses God's control over rulers and His care for those who trust Him.
You will find acts of bravery, solved mysteries through prayer, and prophecies that point to the Messiah. This book fits anyone who seeks to learn about standing firm in belief, understanding history through God's eyes, and finding hope in His supreme rule.
Favourite quote
In Daniel 3:17-18, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego declare their faith to the king:
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
These words show firm trust in God, no matter the outcome. They urge us to hold our convictions strong, even when faced with danger, and to value obedience over safety.
What I Loved
The account of the handwriting on the wall in chapter 5 thrills me. During King Belshazzar's feast, a hand writes words on the wall that no one can read. Daniel explains it as God's judgment on the king's pride. The kingdom falls that night. This event strikes me with its sudden drama and shows how God humbles the arrogant. It prompts me to check my own heart for pride and to respect God's warnings.
Key Takeaway
Daniel shows that God honours those who stay true to Him in hard times. Despite exile and threats, Daniel and his friends thrive through wisdom and miracles from God. The visions reveal that earthly powers fade, but God's kingdom lasts forever. The book calls us to live with integrity, seek God's guidance, and trust His plan over human might. It assures us that faithfulness leads to His protection and ultimate victory.
