World Service by Delirious?

World Service arrived in late 2003 from the British band Delirious?, who had spent a decade pushing modern worship toward big, ambitious rock. The album reaches wide, from arena-sized anthems to quiet prayer. Its theme is grace that flows out to the whole world, and that generous spirit is what drew me back.

Why listen?

The sound is expansive guitar rock, polished and confident, with choruses built for crowds. The production is rich and layered, the work of a band sure of what it wants. The lyrics move between worship and longing, never settling for easy comfort. There is a missionary heart here, a desire for the songs to travel beyond the church walls. It is faithful music with real ambition.

This is the album's still point, a plain offering of self to God after all the noise. It is humble where the rest of the record is bold.

The song builds from a whisper to a full, open chorus, and that climb feels like stepping out of a valley into light. It reminds me of the relief at the end of a long ascent, when the effort gives way to gratitude. The song says the right answer to grace is simply to give yourself back, and that has stayed with me.
