Open Heaven / River Wild by Hillsong Worship

Open Heaven / River Wild is Hillsong Worship's 2015 live praise album, the first recorded entirely during their annual Sydney conference. It carries the church's familiar sound, broad choruses and full-band swells made for a crowd to sing. The theme runs through an open heaven and a flowing river, grace poured out and life carried along, and that simple picture drew me in.
Why listen?
The sound is large and warm, rising from quiet verses to wide, open choruses. The production keeps the live feel, the congregation present but never crowding the songs. The lyrics hold to praise and trust, plain words for a heart that wants to give thanks. There is a steady lift across the set, songs that climb and settle and climb again. It is music made to be sung rather than only heard.
Favourite song: O Praise the Name (Anástasis)
A slow modern hymn that walks from the cross to the empty tomb, gathering weight line by line. It earns its rise honestly.
O praise the Name of the Lord, our God
O praise His Name forevermore
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord, oh Lord, our God
The way the song moves from grief to rising joy is its lasting gift. It reminds me of a long climb that begins in shadow and breaks into light at the ridge, each step plain on its own and the whole worth the effort. The album holds that pace, a steady walk toward thanks, and I have returned to it often.
Key takeaway
Open Heaven / River Wild is warm, well made worship, easy to join. A gentle recommendation for quiet mornings or a full room.
