Glo by Delirious?

Glo by Delirious?

Glo is the third studio album from the British band Delirious?, first out in 2000, a record I came to long after. The band had grown out of a worship night into a full rock outfit by this point. The theme is light in the dark, set out as a continuous "glow" running through the songs and four ambient interludes.

Why listen?

The sound is broad worship rock, guitars and synths shaping a wide, modern feel. The production is ambitious, with the four interludes tying the record into one piece. The lyrics deal with longing for God, romance with the divine, and light pressing back the dark. There is a clear arc across the album, each interlude carrying you to the next song. It is worship built as a single, flowing listen.

Favourite song: My Glorious

A soaring worship song that lifts the album to its highest point. Its chorus is the one most people carry away from the record.

God is bigger than the air I breathe
The world we'll leave
God will save the day and all will say
My glorious!

The way that line opens out feels like the moment a ridge falls away and the view runs for miles. The song trades small worry for a far wider sense of things. That sudden scale is what stays with me.

Key takeaway

Glo is a flowing worship rock record built as one continuous piece. A rewarding find for those who like an album taken whole.
