Everyday by Hillsong United

Everyday is Hillsong United's 1999 live debut, recorded at a youth conference and capturing the start of a worship movement. It is younger and rawer than the polished records that followed. I traced the band back to this album, and found the heart of it already beating here.
Why listen?
The sound is energetic and live, a young congregation singing as one. The production is simple and warm, true to the room it was caught in. The songs are plain prayers of devotion, sung with real conviction. There is a sense of beginning, of a movement just finding its voice. It is a record of honest, unguarded worship.
Favourite song: Everyday
The bright title track that became an early standard. Its chorus is simple and easy to carry.
Everyday, it's You I live for
Everyday, I'll follow after You
Everyday, I'll walk with You, my Lord
The way the room sings together feels like a group setting out on a path at first light. It reminds me of starting a long walk in good company, all of you facing the same way. The song asks for a daily, ordinary kind of faith, which is harder than it sounds.
Key takeaway
Everyday is a youthful, honest start to a long worship story. A record for those who want to hear where it began.
