Equinoxe Infinity by Jean-Michel Jarre

Equinoxe Infinity by Jean-Michel Jarre

Equinoxe Infinity is a 2018 electronic album by Jean-Michel Jarre, a sequel to his 1978 landmark Equinoxe. A pioneer of synthesiser music, he returns to its watchful figures forty years on. The theme asks how we will live with intelligent machines, set out as ten linked movements, and that question drew me in.

Why listen?

The sound is pure electronic music, warm analogue tones beside crisp modern textures. The production is clean and spacious, each movement flowing into the next. There are no words here, only mood, tension, and release built from sound alone. There is a clear arc across the record, from unease toward a strange wide calm. It is patient, atmospheric music made to be heard whole.

Favourite song: Robots Don't Cry

A cool, pulsing piece whose melody carries a real ache beneath its machine surface. It is the most affecting moment on the record.

The way the synth line repeats and slowly warms, finding feeling in something cold, is what stays with me. It reminds me of walking a long path at dusk, the world quiet and the mind free to wander. The track trades words for atmosphere, and that atmosphere carries the whole album.

Key takeaway

Equinoxe Infinity is patient, thoughtful electronic music best heard from end to end. A fair recommendation for anyone who likes their music wordless and wide.
