Cornerstone by Hillsong Worship

Cornerstone is the 2012 live worship album from Hillsong Worship, recorded at a Sydney arena. It draws together worship leaders and teams from several countries for one large night of song. The album turns on themes of grace, hope, and the surrender of the whole self. That sense of a vast gathered congregation is what drew me in.

Why listen?

The sound is broad, modern worship, bands and choir behind a great crowd. The production is full and clear, the room always present in the mix. The lyrics rest on rising from the depths, hope held out to the world, and standing in awe. There is real lift across the set, songs built to carry a whole hall. It is praise made for singing together at full voice.

That declaration, returning to an old truth, steadies the whole record. It feels like standing on solid rock after a stretch of loose, shifting ground. The image of a sure foundation under everything else has stayed with me on uncertain days.
