Casting Crowns released their self-titled debut in 2003, made by a band whose members still served in their local church. That ordinary, grounded life shows in every song. The album asks hard questions about whether the church lives what it sings, and that honesty is what drew me in.

Why listen?

The sound is sturdy pop-rock, melodic and unflashy, built to serve the words. The production is clean and radio-ready without feeling slick. The lyrics are plain and searching, willing to name pride, fear, and self-doubt out loud.
