Born Again by Newsboys

Born Again is the 2010 reset for Newsboys, their fourteenth studio album and the first with Michael Tait singing lead. The band trade some of their old quirk for direct pop rock, anthems built for big rooms and open hands. The theme is plain in the title, a second start, and that idea caught me at a time when I needed to hear it.
Why listen?
The sound is bright and muscular, guitars and synths pushed forward for the chorus. The production is clean and radio ready, every hook set to land. The lyrics return again and again to renewal, to grace that meets a person who has run out of road. There is real momentum here, a record that wants you up and moving. Tait carries it well, and the band sound glad to begin again. It is honest about needing to be made new.
Favourite song: Born Again
The title track sets the whole record in one chorus, plain and hopeful. It states the case for starting over without a trace of cynicism.
This is what it is, this is who I am
This is where I finally take my stand
I didn't wanna fall, but I don't have to crawl
I met the one with two scarred hands
Givin' Him the best of everything that's left of
The life inside this man
I've been born again
The way the song lifts on that line, simple and sure, is what stays. It reminds me of the moment near the top of a long climb when the ground levels and the view opens, and you feel made new by the effort. The album holds to that, a path that turns toward beginning rather than ending, and I came back to it more than once.
Key takeaway
Born Again is a confident reset, big hearted and easy to sing. A good entry point if you have not met this version of the band.
