Alpha / Omega by Kutless

Alpha / Omega by Kutless

Alpha / Omega is Kutless's 2017 worship album, a set that mixes a few originals with rock-edged takes on songs the church already loves. The Oregon band made its name on guitar-driven Christian rock, and here it points that sound at praise. I came to it for that blend of weight and worship, and it carried me.

Why listen?

The sound is muscular and warm, guitars front and centre under clear vocals. The production is tight and radio-ready without losing its edge. The lyrics keep to plain, sturdy worship, naming God as first and last, the alpha and omega. There is a real sense of journey here, the record moving from declaration to surrender. It is a short, direct listen that does not waste a minute.

Favourite song: Cornerstone

A rock-edged take on a hymn-rooted song about standing on solid ground when everything else shifts. It builds with real force.

Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
He is Lord
Lord of all

The way the song sets a simple, immovable claim against the storm around it is its quiet strength. It reminds me of finding firm rock underfoot on a slope where the loose scree kept sliding away. The song says there is one place that does not give way, and that has stayed with me.

Key takeaway

Alpha / Omega is a sturdy, guitar-led worship record best heard in one short sitting. A gentle recommendation.
