A Posteriori by Enigma

A Posteriori is Enigma's seventh album, released in 2006, and one of its most instrumental and abstract. Michael Cretu turns away from chant and toward the cosmos, with track titles about Andromeda, the moon, and the Milky Way. I came back to it for the sense of looking outward at something vast and calm.
Why listen?
The sound is sleek, downtempo electronica, full of deep space and slow pulse. The production is glossy and immersive, made for headphones and late hours. There are few words, so the mood does the talking, drifting between awe and unease. There is a meditative distance here, music that pulls back to see the whole sky. It is a record for thinking and wandering.
Favourite song: Hello and Welcome
The closest thing here to a single, a slow, hypnotic piece with a heavy, deliberate pulse. It feels like a door opening onto deep space.
The way the beat circles and the textures swell makes the track feel both intimate and immense. It reminds me of lying back on a dark hillside far from any town, the stars suddenly close and countless. The song says little in words and everything in atmosphere, which is Enigma's gift.
Key takeaway
A Posteriori is a cool, cosmic record best heard whole and in the dark. A quietly absorbing listen.
