The mermaid attack at Whitecap Bay is one of the most striking set pieces in the franchise. Beautiful and deadly, it brings real fear to the water.

Penelope Cruz gives Angelica a spark that matches Jack's energy. Their history adds a personal thread the story benefits from. The film is smaller than the trilogy. No world-ending stakes, no massive fleets. Just a race through jungles and caves with rivals on every side. That simplicity works in its favour.
