Paddington 2

Paddington 2 (2017), directed by Paul King, follows Paddington as he is wrongly sent to prison after a thief steals the birthday present he planned to give his aunt. Ben Whishaw voices Paddington, now a beloved member of the Brown family and the neighbourhood.
Paddington finds a rare pop-up book of London in an antique shop and takes odd jobs to buy it for Aunt Lucy's hundredth birthday. Hugh Grant plays Phoenix Buchanan, a faded actor and the Browns' neighbour, who steals the book because it holds a clue to hidden treasure. Paddington is blamed and sent to prison. Hugh Bonneville plays Henry Brown. Sally Hawkins plays Mary Brown. Brendan Gleeson plays Knuckles McGinty, the feared prison cook whom Paddington wins over with marmalade sandwiches. The film runs one hour and 43 minutes.
Why You Should Watch
Hugh Grant gives one of his finest performances. He plays Phoenix Buchanan as a vain, forgotten actor who disguises himself in costumes to carry out the theft. Grant throws himself into the role with a joy that lifts every scene. The disguises are funny. The vanity is funnier. He steals a film about a bear and makes it look easy.
The prison scenes are the heart of the film. Paddington turns a grey, hostile place into somewhere warm by simply being himself. He makes marmalade, befriends the toughest inmates, and refuses to believe anyone is beyond kindness. Brendan Gleeson plays Knuckles with a gruff charm that melts slowly and believably. Paul King fills every frame with colour, detail, and invention. The film is widely considered one of the finest sequels ever made, and it earns that praise by being funnier, warmer, and more moving than the first.
Favourite Quote
"If you are kind and polite, the world will be right."
The line returns from the first film, but here it is tested. Paddington holds to it even in prison, even when things look hopeless. The words mean more the second time because they have been proven under pressure.
Takeaway
Kindness changes the rooms it enters. The film teaches that treating people well, even in the worst places, can turn enemies into friends. Vanity makes fools of clever people. A good heart is not the same as a weak one. And the person who refuses to give up on others, no matter where they are, leaves every place better than they found it.
