What is wifivelocityd?
wifivelocityd is a Wi-Fi process you might see in Activity Monitor.
What is wifivelocityd?
wifivelocityd watches Wi-Fi performance and connection quality. It tracks speed, delay, and signal quality to help macOS make better choices about network connections.
What does it do?
The daemon helps macOS with:
- Judging the quality of nearby Wi-Fi networks
- Deciding when to switch between Wi-Fi networks
- Measuring real connection performance against what is expected
- Feeding data into the Wireless Diagnostics system
Is it a speed test?
No. It does not run the kind of speed test you would find on a website. Instead, it watches how your current Wi-Fi connection performs in practice and uses that data to guide network choices.
Does it use many resources?
No. It runs quietly in the background with very little resource use.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS process that helps your Mac keep the best possible Wi-Fi connection. You cannot and do not need to turn it off.
