What is usbctelemetryd?
usbctelemetryd gathers data about your Mac USB-C ports.
What is usbctelemetryd?
usbctelemetryd collects information about USB-C port use on your Mac. It watches the health and behaviour of USB-C connections: power delivery, data handling, cable quality, and connection events.
What does it watch?
The daemon tracks:
- USB-C power talks between your Mac and devices (voltage, current)
- Cable and charger quality
- Connections and disconnections
- Errors or odd behaviour in USB-C links
- Charging patterns
This data helps Apple spot problems with USB-C ports, cables, and devices across many Macs.
Does it send data to Apple?
Only if you have turned on analytics sharing in System Settings, Privacy and Security, Analytics and Improvements. Otherwise the data stays on your Mac.
Does it use many resources?
No. It watches USB-C port events quietly and uses almost nothing.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS process. The data it collects is technical (voltage levels, connection details) and helps Apple improve USB-C in future hardware and software.
