What is systemkeychain?
systemkeychain manages the system-level keychain on your Mac.
What is systemkeychain?
It handles tasks on the System Keychain. This is the keychain that stores credentials shared across all user accounts on your Mac, as opposed to your personal login keychain.
What is in the System Keychain?
- Wi-Fi network passwords (shared across all users)
- System-wide certificates
- VPN credentials set up for all users
- Other credentials not tied to a single user account
How is it different from securityd?
securityd manages the overall security and keychain system. systemkeychain handles tasks on the System Keychain that need special privileges. The System Keychain lives at /Library/Keychains/System.keychain and needs administrator access to change.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS security process for managing system-wide credentials.
