What is SubmitDiagInfo?
SubmitDiagInfo sends diagnostic data to Apple when you have given permission.
What does it send?
- Crash reports
- Hang reports (when apps freeze)
- Energy use data
- System performance data
- Kernel panic logs
Apple uses this data to find common problems and improve macOS.
Does it send data all the time?
No. It runs now and then, not constantly. It gathers reports and sends them when conditions are right, usually when your Mac is on Wi-Fi and plugged in.
Can you turn it off?
Yes. Go to System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Analytics and Improvements:
- Share Mac Analytics sends data to Apple
- Share with App Developers sends crash reports to other app makers
Turn both off and SubmitDiagInfo will not send anything.
Does it use many resources?
No. It runs briefly when sending reports and sits idle the rest of the time.
Should you worry?
No. Apple says the data is made anonymous and does not include personal information. If you would rather not share, turn off analytics in System Settings.
