macOS has a process called configd that watches over network settings. When a change needs root-level access, configd hands the job to SCHelper. This includes:

Why is it separate?

macOS keeps privileged work in its own small process for safety. configd runs with normal access and only calls on SCHelper when something needs higher permissions. SCHelper runs briefly, does the job, and stops.

Should you worry?
