What is PerfPowerServices?

PerfPowerServices balances speed and power use on your Mac.

What does it do?

It watches how hard your Mac is working, how hot it is, and how much battery remains. Based on this, it decides how fast the processor and graphics chip should run.

What does it control?

What about Low Power Mode?

When you turn on Low Power Mode on a supported MacBook, PerfPowerServices shifts towards saving energy. It lowers the top speed of the processor and graphics chip, dims the screen, and delays background work.

Does it slow my Mac down?

It can, and that is by design. When your MacBook is plugged in and cool, it allows full speed. When it is on battery and running hot, it holds back. This stops overheating and saves battery.

Should you worry?

No. It is a normal part of macOS. If your Mac feels slower than you expect, check whether Low Power Mode is on, or open Activity Monitor to see if the processor is being held back by heat.
