What is ODSAgent?

ODSAgent is a process tied to directory services on your Mac.

What is ODSAgent?

ODSAgent stands for Open Directory Services Agent. It handles user-level directory service tasks, giving apps and services access to directory data (user accounts, groups, login details) through an agent that runs in your user session.

How does it relate to opendirectoryd?

opendirectoryd is the system-level daemon that handles all directory lookups. ODSAgent runs in the user session and provides a user-level way into directory services, handling tasks tied to the logged-in user.

When is it active?

ODSAgent is active when directory service queries happen in your user session. For example, when an app looks up user details, contact data from a directory, or group membership.

Should you worry?

No. It is a normal macOS directory services process. On Macs not connected to directory services (Active Directory, Open Directory), it handles local account lookups only.
