What is nfsconf?
nfsconf is a companion to the nfsd process, but it is a configuration tool rather than a running daemon.
What is nfsconf?
nfsconf is a tool for managing NFS (Network File System) settings on macOS. It reads and changes values in /etc/nfs.conf, which controls how the NFS client and server behave on your Mac.
What can you set up?
NFS settings include things such as:
- Whether to use NFS version 3 or 4
- Mount options and timeouts
- Number of NFS server threads
- Lock manager and callback settings
Most people will never need to change these settings.
Do I need it?
Only if you use NFS file sharing, which is rare for typical Mac users. NFS is mainly used in:
- Development setups with tools such as Docker or Vagrant
- Offices with Linux or Unix file servers
- Scientific computing settings
If you have never heard of NFS, you do not need nfsconf.
Should you worry?
No. It is a standard Unix tool for NFS settings. It is not a running process. It is a tool you use to view or change NFS settings.
