What is misagent?
misagent is a process linked to provisioning profiles on your Mac.
What is misagent?
misagent manages provisioning profiles. These are the certificates and entitlements that allow apps to run on Apple devices. It handles the installation, checking, and management of provisioning profiles that developers use during app building and that MDM solutions use for enterprise app deployment.
When is it relevant?
misagent is active when:
- You are a developer running apps from Xcode on your Mac
- An MDM server pushes provisioning profiles to your Mac
- Enterprise apps given out outside the App Store need their profiles checked
- Configuration profiles with provisioning parts are installed
What are provisioning profiles?
Provisioning profiles tie together a developer identity, app identifier, device, and entitlements. They tell macOS "this developer is allowed to run this app on this device with these abilities." For App Store apps, this is handled on its own. For development and enterprise apps, profiles are managed by hand.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS process for managing app provisioning. If you are not a developer and your Mac is not managed by an organisation, it has nothing to do.
