What is installcoordinationd?
installcoordinationd is a background process that manages app installations on your Mac.
What is installcoordinationd?
installcoordinationd keeps app installations and updates running smoothly. When several apps need to be installed or updated at once, this daemon makes sure they are handled in the right order, without clashes, and without running out of resources.
What does it coordinate?
- Queuing several app installations at once
- Working between
appinstalld(App Store apps) andinstalld(installer packages) - Giving priority to security updates over regular app updates
- Handling installation dependencies
- Checking that enough disk space is free before starting
When is it active?
installcoordinationd runs when installations are happening or waiting:
- Several App Store updates are ready
- A macOS update is being prepared alongside app updates
- An app is being installed while another is updating
- Background app updates are being processed
Does it use a lot of resources?
No. It is a scheduling layer. It manages the order of installations but does not do the heavy work of downloading or installing.
Should you worry?
No. It is a standard macOS process that keeps installations running without clashes.
