What is fontmover?
fontmover is a helper process for installing fonts on macOS.
What is fontmover?
fontmover installs and removes fonts at the system level. When you install a font for all users (into /Library/Fonts/), fontmover does the work because normal apps cannot write to that folder.
When does it run?
fontmover runs when:
- You install a font using Font Book and choose "All Users"
- An app installs fonts for the whole system
- A configuration profile installs fonts
- System fonts are updated during a macOS update
For fonts installed just for you (in ~/Library/Fonts/), fontmover is not needed because you already have write access to that folder.
Does it use many resources?
No. It runs briefly during font installation and then stops.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS helper for font management.
