What is fairplaydeviceidentityd?
fairplaydeviceidentityd works alongside the fairplayd copy protection process.
What is fairplaydeviceidentityd?
fairplaydeviceidentityd manages the identity side of Apple's FairPlay system. It creates and keeps a secure identity for your Mac that Apple's servers use to confirm your device is allowed to play protected content.
How is it different from fairplayd?
fairplayd handles the actual unlocking and playback of protected content. fairplaydeviceidentityd focuses on proving to Apple's servers that your Mac is a real Apple device and is allowed to access that content.
When is it active?
It runs when:
- Your Mac needs to set up or renew its identity with Apple
- You link your Mac to your Apple account for media purchases
- Apple's servers need to check your device
Does it use many resources?
No. Identity checks happen rarely. Most of the time it sits idle.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal Apple process that works with fairplayd to let you play purchased and streamed content.
