What are ecosystemd and ecosystemanalyticsd?
You might see ecosystemd and ecosystemanalyticsd in Activity Monitor on recent versions of macOS.
What is ecosystemd?
ecosystemd manages the links between your Apple devices. It keeps track of which devices are nearby, which ones you are using, and how they should work together.
What does it coordinate?
ecosystemd supports features that work across devices:
- Universal Control: moving your cursor between Mac and iPad
- Sidecar: using an iPad as a second screen
- Handoff: picking up tasks on a different device
- AirDrop: finding nearby devices to send files to
- iPhone widgets on Mac: showing iPhone apps on your Mac desktop
- Continuity Camera: using your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac
What is ecosystemanalyticsd?
ecosystemanalyticsd gathers data on how well these cross-device features work. It tracks things like success rates and delays. This helps Apple improve features like Universal Control and Continuity Camera.
This data is only sent to Apple if you have chosen to share analytics.
Should you worry?
No. These are normal macOS processes that let your Apple devices work together.
