What is dprivacyd?
dprivacyd is a privacy-related process that handles anonymous data collection.
What is dprivacyd?
dprivacyd stands for "differential privacy daemon". It runs Apple's differential privacy system. This is a method for gathering data from many users while making it impossible to identify what any single person contributed.
What is differential privacy?
Differential privacy adds random noise to data before it leaves your Mac. Apple can learn things like "20% of users type this emoji often" without knowing whether you personally type that emoji. The maths behind it guarantees your data stays private.
What data does it collect?
When turned on, dprivacyd collects things like:
- Which emoji people use most
- How well keyboard suggestions work
- Safari energy use and crash data
- Which Health data types people use
Is it always active?
It only collects and sends data if you have chosen to share analytics in System Settings, Privacy and Security, Analytics and Improvements.
Should you worry?
No. Differential privacy is one of the strongest privacy protections available. Apple published how it works so researchers can check it. If you would rather not take part, turn off analytics sharing.
