diskmanagementstartup handles disc management tasks during system startup. It makes sure all discs and volumes are in the right state when macOS boots, checking file systems, mounting volumes, and sorting out any problems left over from the last shutdown.

What does it do at startup?

The process handles:

• Checking that internal volumes are properly mounted
• Running file system checks if the last shutdown was not clean
• Setting up disc-related system state
• Working with diskarbitrationd to get the disc management system ready

When do you see it?

You normally do not see diskmanagementstartup in Activity Monitor because it runs during boot and exits once it is done. If you do see it, your Mac may be doing disc maintenance.

Is it related to Disk Utility?

It handles some of the same low-level work as Disk Utility but runs on its own at startup. Disk Utility is the tool you use by hand; diskmanagementstartup is the automatic boot-time version.

Should you worry?
