What is diagnosticd?

diagnosticd is a central diagnostics process on macOS.

What is diagnosticd?

diagnosticd is the unified diagnostics daemon. It gathers diagnostic data from across macOS: system performance, hardware health, software problems, and more. It acts as a hub that other diagnostic parts report to.

What does it work with?

diagnosticd links up with many helpers:

It makes sure diagnostic data is gathered in a steady way, stored properly, and sent when needed.

Does it collect data about me?

diagnosticd gathers technical data: crash logs, performance numbers, and hardware status. It does not collect personal data like documents, browsing history, or messages. Whether it sends anything to Apple depends on your setting in System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Analytics and Improvements.

Does it use many resources?

Normally no. It may become busier when processing a crash report, running a diagnostic, or when a system problem triggers it.

Should you worry?

No. It is a standard macOS process that helps keep your system healthy and helps Apple fix bugs in future updates.
