What is datastored?
datastored is a background process tied to iCloud data syncing.
What is datastored?
datastored manages the local store of CloudKit data on your Mac. CloudKit is Apple's system for syncing app data through iCloud. datastored keeps a local copy of that data so apps can reach it quickly, even when you are offline.
What data does it store?
datastored holds data for apps that use CloudKit, including:
- Notes content and details
- Reminders and lists
- Safari bookmarks and reading list
- iCloud Drive file details
- Third-party app data synced through CloudKit
How is it different from cloudd?
cloudd handles the network side, uploading and downloading data from Apple's iCloud servers. datastored manages the local database where that data lives on your Mac. They work together: cloudd syncs, datastored stores.
Does it use many resources?
Normally very few. It can use more after a fresh iCloud sign-in or when a large batch of data needs to be indexed locally.
Should you worry?
No. It is a standard macOS process for local iCloud data management.
