What is CrashReporterSupportHelper?
CrashReporterSupportHelper is a background process that supports the macOS crash reporting system.
What is CrashReporterSupportHelper?
CrashReporterSupportHelper helps gather and prepare crash data. When an app crashes on your Mac, the system creates crash reports with details about what went wrong. This helper process supports the gathering and processing of that data.
What does it do?
The helper handles:
- Collecting system details to include in crash reports (macOS version, hardware, memory state)
- Preparing crash reports to send to Apple or the app developer
- Managing the crash report sending process
- Cleaning up old crash reports
Where are crash reports stored?
Crash reports are saved to:
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/for user-level crashes/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/for system-level crashes
You can view them in Console.app, then Crash Reports.
Does it send data to Apple?
Crash reports go to Apple and app developers if you click "Report" in the crash window, or on their own if you have opted into sharing analytics. You can control this in System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Analytics and Improvements.
Should you worry?
No. It is a normal macOS process that helps developers fix bugs. Crash reports hold technical data (stack traces, memory addresses) rather than personal information.
