What is coupond?

You might see a process called coupond in Activity Monitor and wonder what it is. The name sounds like adware, but it is a genuine Apple process.

What does it do?

coupond handles Apple's Wallet and pass management. It downloads, updates, and manages passes and coupons that sync through iCloud to your devices.

If you have boarding passes, loyalty cards, or coupons in the Wallet app on your iPhone, coupond on your Mac keeps that data in sync through iCloud.

Why is it running?

It runs in the background as part of iCloud syncing. It is busiest when:

Can you turn it off?

There is no switch for coupond alone. If you do not use Wallet or iCloud, it will have very little to do. Signing out of iCloud would stop it syncing, but that affects all iCloud features.

Should you worry?

No. It is a normal system process that uses very few resources. It is not adware or malware, despite the name.
