What is coreduetd?

coreduetd powers many of the smart features in macOS.

What is coreduetd?

coreduetd is the Core Duet daemon. "Duet" refers to Apple's Duet Activity Scheduler, a system for understanding how you use your device and scheduling background tasks at good times. It learns your habits so maintenance runs when you are away from your Mac.

What does it do?

coreduetd manages:

• Usage tracking: recording which apps you use and when
• Habit patterns: understanding your daily routines
• Task scheduling: running maintenance when you are least likely to be at your Mac
• Handoff guesses: predicting which device you will reach for next
• Battery care: scheduling heavy tasks for when your Mac is plugged in

What features depend on it?

• Siri Suggestions for apps and shortcuts
• Handoff predictions
• Background task scheduling (backups, indexing)
• Battery health management
• App launch predictions (preloading apps you are likely to open)

Is it tracking me?

It tracks how you use your device so macOS can schedule tasks and offer suggestions. This data stays on your Mac and is not sent to Apple. It works much like how your iPhone learns your charging habits for Optimised Battery Charging.

Should you worry?

No. It is a standard macOS process that learns your habits to work better for you. All processing happens on your device.
