What is containermanagerd?
containermanagerd manages app sandbox containers on your Mac.
What is containermanagerd?
Every sandboxed app on macOS gets its own private folder where it stores its data. containermanagerd creates and looks after these folders. All Mac App Store apps are sandboxed, along with many others.
What are containers?
Each sandboxed app gets a container at ~/Library/Containers/com.example.appname/. Inside, the app has its own Library, Documents, and other folders. It can read and write freely inside its container but needs permission to touch files elsewhere.
This keeps things safe. If an app is broken into, the damage stays within its own container.
What does the daemon do?
containermanagerd handles:
- Creating containers when a sandboxed app first launches
- Managing container permissions
- Cleaning up containers when apps are removed
- Handling shared containers used by groups of apps from the same maker
- Moving container data when apps are updated
Does it use many resources?
No. It only wakes up when apps are launched or installed.
Should you worry?
No. It is a standard macOS security process.
