What is cfnetwork.cfnetworkagent?

You might see cfnetwork.cfnetworkagent (or just cfnetworkagent) in Activity Monitor or in network monitoring tools.

What is cfnetworkagent?

cfnetworkagent is part of Apple's CFNetwork framework. This is the low-level networking layer that handles HTTP, HTTPS, and other network rules on macOS. The agent process takes care of background networking tasks that the framework needs to do outside of individual apps.

What does it do?

CFNetwork is the foundation for most network connections on macOS. The agent handles tasks like:

Most apps on your Mac, such as Safari, Mail, App Store, and third-party apps, use CFNetwork under the hood.

Does it use many resources?

Normally no. It is lightweight and mostly acts as a go-between for the framework and the system. If you see odd activity, it could be tied to a proxy or sign-in problem on your network.

Should you worry?

No. It is a core macOS networking part. It does not start connections on its own. It supports the networking needs of other apps and system services.
