What is avbdeviced?

avbdeviced is a process you might see in Activity Monitor, though most people will never notice it.

What is avbdeviced?

avbdeviced stands for Audio Video Bridging device daemon. AVB is a set of networking standards for streaming high-quality audio and video over a network with guaranteed timing and low delay.

Who uses it?

AVB is mainly used in professional audio and video setups:

If you do not work with professional audio or video networking kit, avbdeviced is not doing anything on your Mac.

Does it use resources?

No. On a typical Mac without AVB hardware, the daemon sits idle.

Should you worry?

No. It is a normal macOS process that supports professional audio and video networking. It has no effect on everyday Mac use.
