What is audioclocksyncd?

audioclocksyncd (shown as timesync.audioclocksyncd) is a process for keeping audio timing tight.

What is audioclocksyncd?

audioclocksyncd keeps audio clocks in step between devices. In professional audio, keeping several devices perfectly in sync matters. Even tiny timing differences (measured in samples, not milliseconds) can cause clicks, pops, or phase problems in recordings.

Why does audio need clock sync?

Every digital audio device has its own clock that sets when samples are captured or played. When several devices work together, for example a Mac and an external audio interface, their clocks need to stay in step. If they drift apart, audio glitches happen.

audioclocksyncd handles this, especially for:

Do I need it?

If you use any external audio device, whether headphones, speakers through AirPlay, or an audio interface, audioclocksyncd works behind the scenes to keep things in step. You just do not notice because it is doing its job well.

For professional audio users with several interfaces, proper clock sync is vital for recording quality.

Does it use many resources?

No. Clock sync is a lightweight, time-sensitive task that uses very little CPU.

Should you worry?

No. It is a normal macOS audio process. If you hear audio clicks or pops, clock sync problems could play a part, but the daemon itself is not the cause.
